- Internation Summer School of Architecture 2011 in Turku
- The International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) will arrange its next international summer school in Turku in August 2011. The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (Aalto University/YTK) is preparing the course jointly with The City of Turku Planning Office and Bryggman Institute.
Young architects, planners, and students from around the world meet to offer fresh viewpoints on a topic presented by the City of Turku. The course, which has lately met in Turku every other summer, has previously examined e.g. a pedestrian bridge over Aura River, and invisible places in the city.

- Erik Bryggman 120 Years Seminar in February 2011 in the Resurrection Chapel
- It will be 120 years since Erik Bryggman's birth in February, and 70 years in April 2011 since his Resurrection Chapel in Turku was completed . St Henry's parish and Bryggman Institute will jointly arrange a seminar (in Finnish) on the theme of 'holy space' on Bryggman's birthday, Monday February 7. The topic will be examined from the viewpoints of comparative religion studies, architecture, art history, and theology. The program also includes music.
Before the seminar at 4.15 pm, flowers will be set on the Bryggman family grave in front of the Chapel. The seminar program begins at 4.30 pm and continues until 7.15. There is no entrance fee and no need to sign up in advance. Seminar language will be Finnish.
The Resurrection Chapel is the internationally most noted work by Erik Bryggman, and one of the absolute masterworks of Finnish architecture in the 1930s and 1940s. Bryggman won the chapel design competition in 1938. Construction work started in the spring of 1939, was interrupted by the war (later known as the winter war), and then continued from the spring of 1940 to the following spring.
Bryggman participated in fourteen architectural competitions for churches, chapels, and crematoria. He had plenty of success: four first and three second prizes, one third prize, and one purchase. Of the winning entries, only the Turku funeral chapel (later known as the Resurrection Chapel) and the Honkanummi pair of chapels in Vantaa were built.
Without design competition, he received commissions for funeral chapels in Parainen, Lohja (Metsola Chapel) and in Lappeenranta (Ristikangas Chapel). Honkanummi, Metsola, and Ristikangas were completed after the architect's death. Bryggman never got to build a church – he did, however, design interiors and furnishings for some existing churches.

- Bryggman Institute and Foundation in 2009-2010
- Bryggman Institute and Bryggman Foundation are being planned at the Arts Council of Southwestern Finland. The major part of the funding comes from regional development funds. There is an advisory group with representatives from the fields of architecture, interior design, land-use planning, construction industry, and research. The group chairman is Professor Harri Andersson of Turku University.
Bryggman Foundation charter was already prepared in the fall of 2009. Negotiations with potential founding members about their eventual donations began in November 2009. By the end of 2010, fifteen institutions and enterprises have annouced their donations. Some negotiations are still current. Donors will meet in early 2011 to finalize the charter, and to appoint a Foundation board. The charter will then be sent to the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland.

- Bryggman Institute Activities
- Bryggman Institute activities will center around three main areas: architectural education for people of different age groups, courses for built environment professionals, and research of built environment topics.
During 2010, networks of architectural education have been formed. There has been collaboration with Erkkeri, the architecture school for children at Kupittaa Adventure Park. Architectural education in secondary schools has been discussed in Turku. Collaboration in architectural education for adults has been started with the Vakka-Suomi Adult Education Centre in Uusikaupunki.
A joint cultural tourism project during the 2010–11 academic year is under way with Turku Unversity of Applied Sciences. The project Architectural Tourism in Southwestern Finland is financed mainly by a grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

- Friends of the Bryggman Institute founded
- In April, after the first Bryggman Institute seminar, the association Friends of the Bryggman Institute (BIY-BIV, after the abbreviations in Finnish and Swedish) was founded. The association intends to support the educational and research activities of the Institute, and to call forth interest and enthusiasm in the built environment.
More than sixty friends of the built environment have already joined the BIY-BIV. Bryggman promenades in the autumn of 2010 were so popular that they will be repeated in the spring. The association will also arrange excursions for members only.
The BIY-BIV chair is Caterina Casagrande-Mäkelä, architect.
